Description

Note: While this tutorial may have taken place on Linux, all the instructions here will work for all operating systems that can run GIMP. I may not have been very clear with these instructions, so please point them out so I can add an annotation to fix it. Also, TURN ON ANNOTATIONS, they are needed cause there were some parts that I spoke too fast. xD
Lastly, I only know about GIMP, I'm not sure about Photoshop or paint.net. I know paint.net has a "Color to Alpha" plugin, so that's a good plus. For Photoshop, i'm not so sure, but I think if you payed $500+ for your photo editing software, then I REALLY BELIEVE this feature would be standard. If photoshop does not have this feature, you were ripped off!! (I'm VERY sure it DOES have this feature.)

And here's the video!

One of these days I'm going to one day rebuild my Touhou PC-98 Nameless Cast prop pack using this exact method because not only is what I made built using vanilla props, but also because this custom character prop pack uses anti-aliasing I redid myself. (^^Sweat or Tear Emoji Bullet)

While it was it was impressive for some that I did that, the truth is that it was a brutal nightmare to create it like that and took me an eon's worth of my time to do- and there are still mistakes on a few of them, agh! Using this method would have been a lot more simpler to do, wouldn't it? Hindsight can be rough, man. (^^Sweat or Tear Emoji Bullet)
